Freeway Bike Ride!

The bike ride began at 7:00 a.m. as cyclists rode from Glenarm Street in Pasadena down the parkway through the early morning mist. For a $10 fee cyclists had the option of riding 4, 12 or 16 miles down the oldest freeway in the American West.

Cyclists biking 4 miles ended their ride in Sycamore Grove Park in Highland Park, the site of the ArroyoFest Community Festival.

Cyclists choosing the 12-mile ride traveled down to Avenue 26 where they exited the parkway, made a quick turn and began climbing back up to the start of the Freeway in Pasadena.

Cyclists choosing the 16-mile ride completed the 12-mile loop back to the start and then did the first four miles over again to end in Sycamore Grove Park.

All sizes and shapes of bicycles hit the road for this historic ride.

Parents rode with little ones in tow or trailing behind on tricycles.

The ride was supported by bike technicians from REI who gave free tune-ups and road repair service.
