ArroyoFest cannot reach its goal of creating livable communities
across Southern California without decent salaries and working conditions
for all of its residents. Toward this end, ArroyoFest is proud to announce
an exciting partnership with
SweatX,
a cooperatively-owned garment company located south of downtown Los
Angeles.
SweatX pays its workers a living wage and provides both health and retirement
benefits. The company has also installed safety measures at its factory
to protect workers and prevent injuries. Workers own a share of the
company and are unionized through UNITE. Funds to start SweatX came
from the Hot Fudge Venture Fund, a project of Ben Cohen (co-founder
of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream).
With the help of Amalgamated Bank and American Union Financial, ArroyoFest
is partnering with SweatX to produce official event t-shirts. Profits
from t-shirt sales go to support both ArroyoFest and SweatX and by wearing
the t-shirt you can help promote the event.
T-shirts are $10 plus shipping and handling and can be ordered by mailing
an
order form, by calling
323-341-5093, or by sending an e-mail to
arroyo@oxy.edu.
To avoid the shipping and handling, you can pick up your t-shirts at
our office at 2106 Colorado Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90041.
